FAQ’s

How do I get a job teaching Yoga Ed. after I’ve completed an Instructor Training?

Yoga Ed. programs are designed to offer our graduates two primary employment opportunities: teaching school children using the K-8 curriculum and teaching classroom teachers by offering the Tools for Teachers Program as a professional development in-service. Some of our graduates teach in schools, others work with after school programs; others choose to incorporate what they’ve learned into their existing practices with children.

In addition, Yoga Ed. provides its graduates the informational and marketing materials and support they need to successfully solicit Yoga Ed. programs to schools. We also provide an extensive membership network on this website, including national job listings that connect educator’s interested in Yoga Ed. with graduates in their locale.

If I don’t have yoga teacher certification, what is considered an equivalent?

To successfully complete our Instructor Training it is critical to have four skills:

1. Understanding of alignment in all poses;

2. Ability to clearly instruct and safely make verbal corrections;

3. Knowledge of hands-on adjustments;

4. Some experience teaching or student teaching children.

In many cases, physical education teachers and dance instructors with yoga experience will meet these requirements. Also, we understand that there are a number of different yoga teacher trainings and certifications with varying lengths and titles. We are more concerned that a prospective registrant be able to meet the criteria outlined above than with the type of training or certification you may have completed.

What is the difference between a Yoga Ed. Instructor and a Yoga Ed. Trainer?

A YE Instructor has completed the YE Instructor Training and may teach:

  • K-8 Curriculum to students as PE or after-school, in studios and community centers, etc.
  • Tools for Teachers Program to classroom teachers

A YE Trainer has completed the YE Trainer Program and may be hired on a contractual basis to:

  • Present YE to School Districts and other educational or health related organizations
  • Teach YE Teacher Trainings
  • Teach YE Curriculum to PE teachers

How can I become a YE Trainer?

To qualify for the YE Trainer Program, you must be a graduate of the YE Instructor Training and have experience in teaching YE K-8 to students and Tools for Teachers to teachers.

The Trainer Program requires 3 steps:

  • You observe and assist at a YE Instructor Training (approx 40 hours)
  • You co-teach a YE Instructor Training (approx 50 hours)
    • If this involves travel, you are required to pay for your travel expenses but your accommodations will be covered by YE
  • You are approved by the YE Trainer who observes you teach during Step #2
  • The cost of the Trainer Program is $300

Does Yoga Ed. provide a certification?

Yoga Ed. provides its graduates with a Instructor Training diploma. This is essentially the same as what other programs would call a certification. We use the language of “diploma” in lieu of “certification” because we are offering only the Instructor Training component and not the many hours of service associated with receiving a “certification.”

Where can I find a good yoga Instructor Training program?

There are a number of teacher trainings across the country. To find a training or certification near you, we suggest checking out the Instructor Training Directory at www.yogadirectory.com

What if I want to teach Yoga Ed. to high school or pre-school students?

Many of our graduates find that the material taught in our K-8 Instructor Training is easily applied to high school and pre-school aged children. For those interested specifically in yoga education for high school and pre-school, the Yoga Ed. High School Curriculum is currently in development and set to pilot at an LA area charter school the fall of 2005 with Instructor Training to begin in 2006. The Yoga Ed. Pre-School Curriculum is currently in development with plans to launch in 2006.

What if I want to teach Yoga Ed. to the special needs child?

While Yoga Ed. does not have a program geared specifically to meet the needs of the special child at this time, we have had a number of our graduates share with us that they’ve successfully implanted the material taught in our K-8 Instructor Training working with these children.
